A ‘Mosaic’ Amble/Ramble in Cirencester – by various

Something for all tastes – Cirencester provided a ‘mosaic’ of entertainments…

October 1st was a glorious Autumn Day – Cirencester, our venue, bathed in sunshine, the centre bustling with shoppers and visitors looking at the stalls set up in the marketplace. Our meeting point was the parish church, inside which a choir was rehearsing for a concert shortly about to begin.

Many times I have wandered past a museum and a church wandering a town, so it was a great opportunity to go into St John Baptist Church in Cirencester to hear a choral recital by the Jubilate Chamber Choir. It was a fabulous hour of top-class diverse choral music and gave Jola and I time to lift our eyes and thoughts above the market place. So many thanks to SBC. We got out just in time to see the group turning the corner for a walk, also very enjoyable followed by a great tea. We hope to hear the Jubilate Christmas recital on 3rd December at the church of St Philip and St James in Up Hatherley.

[Editors note – see the Jubilate Choir’s website here if you are interested in upcoming performances.]

Cirencester was a very exciting place to visit because I went for a walk in two different parks! There were lots of new, interesting smells in the Abbey Grounds and we all went for a lovely stroll around Cirencester Park. I particularly enjoyed foraging for berries on the paths and saying hello to all the many dogs and humans out and about in the lovely sunshine. My favourite person of the day was the human selling coffee in the Abbey Grounds – he gave me two dog treats and a tummy tickle.

Editor’s notes…

Thanks to all for contributions to this write-up and particularly to Vanilla the dog, our first canine participant! We did things a little bit differently on this occasion, beginning our walk portion of the afternoon later than usual for an Amble/Ramble day, allowing the ‘ramblers’ to take advantage of exploring some of the town’s offerings. Our walk went into Bathurst Park, a beautiful and accessible green space. We weaved first along a woodland path and as well as conkers aplenty, we were even treated to sighting of a deer bouncing past! We completed our loop by turning into an enormous stretch of green space that appeared to go on forever in one direction, and in the other, the tree-lined path perfectly framed the buildings of the town in the distance as we returned.

Finally…

We all gathered at the Corinium Hotel and enjoyed a superb cream tea – freshly baked scones, lashings of cream and lots of chatting (diet sheets available on request)!
